Guilin's finest guide meets a tourist who won't look up. Can silence say what stories can't?
陈博是桂林最有名的导游。他又幽默又聪明，游客们都喜欢听他讲故事。今天，他带着新的旅游团来到漓江边。
Chen Bo was the most famous tour guide in Guilin. He was both funny and smart, and tourists all loved listening to him tell stories. That day, he brought a new tour group to the banks of the Li River.
团里有个游客叫大卫。他穿着蓝衣服，眼睛一直看着手机。陈博在介绍漓江的历史，大卫却问：“这里有没有好吃的餐厅？”
In the group there was a tourist named David. He was dressed in blue, and his eyes never left his phone. Chen Bo was talking about the history of the Li River, but David asked: “Are there any good restaurants around here?”
陈博笑了笑，指着江边的灯笼说：“挂灯笼的餐厅都不错。”大卫一边走一边问别的，根本没在听。陈博有点着急，但还是耐心地回答。
Chen Bo smiled and pointed at the lanterns along the river: “The restaurants with lanterns are all good.” David walked along asking about other things and wasn't listening at all. Chen Bo was getting a little anxious, but he still answered patiently.
到了象鼻山，陈博讲这座山的故事。大卫却一边看手机一边说：“我在网上看过了，没什么特别的。”游客们都皱起了眉头。
At Elephant Trunk Hill, Chen Bo told the story of the hill. But David kept looking at his phone and said: “I've already read about it online. It's nothing special.” The other tourists all frowned.
陈博停下来，心想：“我讲得越多，他越不听。”他走到大卫旁边，轻声说：“先生，前面有个地方很特别，一起去看看吧。”
Chen Bo stopped and thought: “The more I talk, the less he listens.” He walked over to David and said quietly: “Sir, there's a very special place up ahead. Let's go and see it together.”
他们走着走着，来到山顶。山上飘着雾，远处的山又高又美。陈博站着看山，什么也没说。大家也安静下来。
They walked on and on and reached the top of the hill. Mist drifted over it, and the mountains in the distance were tall and beautiful. Chen Bo stood looking at the mountains and said nothing. Everyone else went quiet too.
大卫还拿着手机，但已经不看屏幕了。他抬头看了看山和雾里的江水，把手机放进口袋，轻轻地说：“真的很美。”
David was still holding his phone, but he had stopped looking at the screen. He looked up at the mountains and the river in the mist, put the phone in his pocket and said softly: “It's really beautiful.”
陈博没有马上说话，只是笑了笑。大家都站在那里，安安静静地看着远处的山和江水。
Chen Bo didn't say anything right away. He just smiled a little. Everyone stood there, quietly looking out at the distant mountains and the river.
那天傍晚，陈博坐在漓江边，想起了大卫看山的样子。从那以后，他每次带团，都会在最美的地方停下来，什么也不说，只是等着。
Late that afternoon, as the sun went down, Chen Bo sat by the Li River and thought of the way David had looked at the mountains. From then on, every time he led a group, he stopped at the most beautiful spot, said nothing, and simply waited.
